Beers Contemporary is delighted to be exhibiting 4 artists at PULSE Miami Beach 2014 (booth D15): Faig Ahmed, Tony Romano, Pawel Sliwinski and Janneke Van Leeuwen. The fair runs from 4-7 December and it is with a great sense of excitement that we will be present at such an important place/time in the yearly art calendar. Participating artist biographies

FAIG AHMED (b. Baku, 1982) graduated from the Sculpture faculty at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Art in Baku in 2004. Since 2003, he has been working with various media, including painting, video and installation. Currently, he is studying the artistic qualities of Azerbaijani traditional rugs. TONY ROMANO (b. 1978, Toronto, Canada) obtained a BFA from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. Romano has shown his work extensively internationally including exhibitions in Canada, Austria and Sweden. Recent solo shows include The Last Act, Articule, Montreal, Onward Future, Oakville Galleries, and Notary Moon, MacLaren Art Gallery, Barrie as well as group shows such as The Way I Are, Blackwood Gallery, University of Toronto; You Don’t Really Care for Music, Do You?, Red Bull Projects, Toronto; Everything will be OK, No. 9 Projects, Toronto; and Air Conditioned Jungle, Diaz Contemporary, Toronto.

PAWEL SLIWINSKI (b. 1984, Chelm, Poland) holds an MFA in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts, Warsaw (2009). The artist has exhibited extensively in Poland and internationally and has also been acquired by the Zabludowicz Collection in London, the Collection of the ING Polish Art Foundation, Warsaw, as well as the Polish Modern Art Foundation, Warsaw. Notable solo exhibitions include Wayward Layer, 4-Face Space Gallery, Beijing, China, 2013 (two person- with Tymek Borowski), Figures and Motives, Kolonie Gallery, Warsaw, Poland, 2013, Unknown Master From Kasilan, BWA Gallery, Zielona Gora, Poland, 2012, and Family, Supplement Gallery, London, England, 2011. Selected group exhibitions include Mum, I just really need to focus of my art right now, Arsenal Gallery, Poznan, 2013, Landscape, Portrait, Still Life, Kolonie Gallery, 2011, Hi, Stereo Gallery, Poznan, Poland, 2011, No Sleep!, BWA Gallery, Zielona Gora, Poland, 2010 (with Tymek Borowski). The artist lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.

JANNEKE VAN LEEUWEN (b. 1980, Groningen, The Netherlands) obtained a Masters degree in Neuropsychology before studying Fine Art Photography at the renowned Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. In 2009 her work was published by the international Art&Design Wallpaper* Magazine for their Online Graduate Directory (2010). Van Leeuwen was also part of the prestigious Musée de l’Elysée’s traveling group exhibition reGeneration2: Tomorrow’s Photographers Today. Since its launch in 2010 at the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, the reGeneration2 exhibition has been touring the world and has been on display at: Pingyao International Photography Festival, Pingyao, China; Michaelis School of Fine Art, Cape Town, South Africa; Galleria Carla Sozzani, Milan, Italy; Fotoweek, Washington, USA; Flash Forward Festival, Toronto, Canada; Couvent Saint-Césaire, Rencontres d'Arles; Arles, France; Centre Gallery, Miami Dade College, Miami, USA; Aperture Foundation, New York, USA; ROSPHOTO, Saint Petersburg, Russia. The exhibition was accompanied by the catalogue ‘reGeneration2: Tomorrow’s Photographers Today ‘, published by Thames&Hudson and by the Aperture Foundation in New York (USA). Since then Van Leeuwen’s work has been exhibited and published internationally, including the Netherlands, Turkey, Italy, Spain and the UK.  In February 2013 Van Leeuwen had her first solo exhibition in London at Gallery 8 followed by her inclusion as part of the Au (Gold) exhibition at Beers Contemporary. Van Leeuwen is currently collaborating with 2 neuroscientists on a book publication about 'Machine Medical Ethics', published by Springer Science Publisher New York in 2014. Van Leeuwen also received the Beers Contemporary Award for Emerging Art 2013 for Photography/2D.
