Biography
Iris Bendt-Hedal approaches painting as an exploratory space through which to examine the tension between the individual and society, as well as the complexities of human experience. Her practice is rooted in intuition and experimentation, favouring an open and responsive process over adherence to classical techniques.

Working primarily with acrylics, she incorporates materials such as spray paint, oil pastels, and ink to create layered, varied visual surfaces. Spontaneity plays a central role, allowing each work to evolve organically and resulting in a dynamic and diverse visual language.

Bendt-Hedal’s paintings are conceived as spaces for immersion and reflection. They often embody a subtle friction, an interplay between attraction and resistance, that draws the viewer in while simultaneously challenging them. This tension creates encounters that may feel slightly disquieting or confrontational, encouraging a deeper engagement with both the work and oneself.
