TANG SHUO: THE NARRATORS
6 Jun - 13 Jul 2024 There’s a curious development happening in the ongoing narrative of Tang Shuo’s work where the occupants of his former home Boulder Hill (or Da Shi Shan, 大石山) have all slowly morphed into variations of the artist himself. This seems symbolic, even melancholic, where an artist aspires to pave the lacuna between fact and memory and continues inserting himself into the role of the Chinese farmer, worker, neighbour or family member. KAT KRISTOF: HER & THE SELF
19 Oct - 25 Nov 2023 In Luigi Pirandello’s cathartic text, One, No One and a Hundred Thousand, the narrator stumbles upon a paradox: the ‘self’ that each of us, as individuals, claims to know about ourselves is never totally congruent with our identity as perceived by others. He suggests that identity is not fixed but rather a fluid and multi-dimensional construct influenced by social contexts, personal experiences, and even the presence or absence of others. Read more -
Manu García: JUEGO
8 Sep - 14 Oct 2023 The idea of movement is important to Spanish artist Manuel García, who brings his debut UK solo exhibition, ‘Juego’, to BEERS London this September. Juego is the Spanish word for play. To English-speaking ears, the word suggests something more mysterious than its English counterpart; it sounds somehow seductive and alluring. There’s a buoyancy to the word – not just what it means, but also what it suggests – and there is a similar idea presented within these works.
